Nursery Decor from Family Nation

If you follow the blog then you will already know that we were lucky enough to be able to buy our first family home at the start of this year. We loved the house and location as soon as we set eyes on it but it was going to be a big project. We decided to go for it and the renovations started shortly after. We underestimated how much work had to be done on the house but that is something that is easily done when you only see the face of the house. Once you start stripping back wallpaper and ripping up floorboards then more and more jobs are added to that never ending list.

One benefit of buying your first home and starting from scratch is that you are able to have full control of the design and decor of each room. My favourite room to design was
Noah's nursery and it's the one I am the most proud of. As we already had pine coloured nursery furniture I decided to stick to warm tones. We painted the walls a creamy yellow shade and chose a neutral sandy coloured carpet. Once everything was decorated and the furniture was in it was time to start thinking about decor and how to dress his room.

I thought a nautical theme would compliment the colour scheme of the room and it really does work. It's a theme that isn't too babyish and is one that we will be able to adapt as he grows older.

After researching home decor and attempting to source inspiration I came across a website called Family Nation which was created by Husband and Wife, Aidan and Emilia.

"Emilia and Aidan met each other in Kabul, Afghanistan working for the United Nations and the Afghan Government. After having traveled, worked and lived in more than 60 countries between them, decided to set up home in Florence - Emilia's home city. Since September 2011 they have lived here with their two children (Flavia and Tancredi) in the Tuscan hillside, from where they manage Family Nation."

Emilia has worked in Asia with the United Nations in the sector of human rights and justice for the last 10 years. While she was on maternity leave in Bangkok, Emilia's keen interest and knowledge of maternity and baby products grew, living alongside families from different cultures and nationalities.
With Familly Nation, one of Emilia's dreams has come true: marrying her passion for beautiful things with her conviction that what is beautiful can also be good and fair.

Aidan has worked for more than 15 years in international development, ten of which with the United Nations. He has experience of managing large and complex projects, and international websites aimed at making sure that aid goes to the people that needed it most.
In September 2011 he moved to Florence with Emilia and their two children, where he has channeled his experience and enthusiasm into the creation of Family Nation.
He is a loving and active father, and proud to be so.

Family Nation provide a range of hand picked goods for parents who appreciate both style and substance and have put together a collection of the best baby and maternity brands and designers from across the world. I was so impressed with the wide scope of unique pieces and with the fact that the majority of their products are eco friendly that I just had to put together my wishlist of nursery picks from their website.

1) Flensted 3 Boat Mobile - This mobile is the epitome of all things nautical and would be perfect in Noah's room. It's a nursery piece that would be ideal from birth and through to childhood, something that you can keep for years unlike a regular cot mobiles that they grow out of. It's more than just a mobile it's a decorative piece and it's stunning.

2) Aden & Anais Twinkle Cot Sheet - I'm already a huge fan of Aden & Anais so it's great to see such a wide range of their products on Family Nation. What nautical room wouldn't be complete without some stars thrown into the mix and you know you are investing in quality when choosing something from Aden & Anais.

3) Zzzoolight Fish Night Light - How cute is he and how perfect is he for a nautical themed room? I think this night light is really unique and quirky and another nursery staple that you could use for years.

4) Deuz Kids Tent - Children's tents are all the rage at the moment and I'm not surprised at all. They are ideal for playing, sleeping, reading, hiding and all kids are going to love them. I can imagine curling up inside next to Noah with one of his favourite books.

If you are looking for some nursery inspiration or anything baby or maternity related then look no further and take a look at the website. By signing up to the Family Nation e-newsletter you automatically receive a voucher for 5 euro's off. If that doesn't tempt you enough then you will be delighted to know that there is also a sale on at the moment too!
