4 simple ways to save money on your energy bills

At the moment the cost of living is very high and is constantly rising. I don't know about you but as soon as our money lands in our bank account it's leaving just as quickly as it came in. Our money seems to vanish before our very eyes on the endless amount of bills and direct debits that we need to payout. With this in mind, I thought I would share 4 energy-saving tips we've learned along the way, tips that save us money on a monthly basis.

Switch to LED bulbs-
During our home renovation last year we opted to install spotlights rather than one main light feature in most of the rooms as we preferred that look. LED bulbs are initially costly to buy but are a huge energy saver in the long run. Each LED bulb uses less than just 5 watts of electricity compared to the average halogen bulb which uses 40/50 watts. They not only save you a lot of money but each bulb lasts an incredible 20 years so no more replacing bulbs every other week!

Insulate your home-
One major energy saving changes that you can make is by checking that your home is insulated properly. There are many different ways you can go about this from loft insulation to cavity wall insulation and you can often have it installed for free. Another way of insulating is by investing and indulging in energy saving blinds. I have my eye on a few different styles from Duette® Blinds as we are currently looking for some for our kitchen. Not only do they look super stylish but they also keep the warmth in and the cold out, win-win.

Turn your heating down-
This is a no-brainer but turning down your thermostat by just 1 degree can save you a whopping £90 per year! It's also a good idea to give your boiler an MOT and check that there isn't a more energy-efficient model on the market. We paid a lot of money for an A** efficient boiler and thought it was well worth it as it nets us a nice saving of £225 a year. If you're worried about money, you can always buy a new boiler on finance. If you go with Bbright, they offer efficient regular, combi and system boilers from leading brands. The team would be happy to talk you through the options to figure out what's right for you and how you can save money in the long run.

Compare energy prices-
Before buying our home we lived in numerous rental properties. On moving into these houses we usually just stuck with the energy provider that the previous tenant had but this wasn't always the wisest decision. Using comparison websites can often save you a great deal of money by suggesting different energy providers.

Do you have any energy-saving tips that you would like to share?
