Organising A Memorable First Birthday Party

After carrying your precious baby for around nine months, it can bring pure joy to watch them grow over the years. One of the first milestones that might make you feel a sense of pride and accomplishment is when your baby first turns one. This could be because one represents twelve months of bonding, as well as learning how to talk, crawl, and walk. One may also represent a years’ worth of memories that you’ll never forget. Whatever the case, your baby turning one may be an occasion you want to mark as a mother. Here are four tips for organising a party that you’ll remember in years to come.

Pick a Venue
One of the first things that you’ll need to do when putting together a first birthday party is choosing a venue. This might mean renting out a hall, considering your local park, or organising something at a child-friendly restaurant. If you have the space to do so, you could also consider doing it in your house as that will cut costs significantly as well as potentially be more convenient. You should take into consideration, however the number of children that you will be inviting and if you’re okay with the possibility of food-stained walls and all other forms of mess that children create. Remember that your child probably won’t remember any of it so you don’t have to go over the top if you cannot afford to.

Send out Invites
Once you’ve decided on a venue and a date, you may decide you want to send out invites next. These days, most things seem to be done digitally, so you could create a template and design the cards yourself or outsource it to a professional. When it comes to sending them out, you may choose to do so using a traditional method such as a post or you could decide to go digital and send them all via instant messaging, social media, or email.

Organise Gifts
Children’s parties usually feature the cutest and most heart-melting party bags. If you have a theme for your little one’s party, you can see if you can find bags that match the theme you choose. Typically, children’s goody bags consist of sweets, toys, and anything else you can think of. There are also usually separate ones for both the boys and the girls so that they get items that they’ll most likely be enthusiastic about. Consider going to your local pound shop to find the items you want to fill the bags with, you may also find some decent decorations there too while you’re at it. You can also buy the birthday girl or boys gift in advance so that you aren’t rushing to find one, you could make a birthday card yourself if you happen to be the creative type.

Decide on Food
The children will need food to keep their little engines going, so you should think about what they’ll eat asides from the cake at the party. Remember that children may have less of an appetite than you so may not necessarily need a three-course meal, consider foods that aren’t too messy and are easy to consume such as sandwiches, sausage rolls, and other pastries. Snacks may also be an essential as kids seem to like keeping busy with snacks.

Organising your child’s first birthday party can be an exciting task for you it can also be very stressful depending on the type of party you’re going for. There are a few aspects that are left out such as choosing entertainment and nominating other parents to help manage the kids, but the three mentioned above are the major ones to consider. Above all, try your best to have a good time, take lots of pictures and videos, and make it a day to remember.

  1. Great tips, I haven't arranged a party for Mollie for her 1st birthday, we dont know many people with babies, so I was thinking of just doing a little tea party at home with the family xxx

  5. Pick a Venue :- I have mainly been used to First Birthday Celebrations being held at home. I think that has probably been due to prioritising child / baby, as well as close relatives. As some are keen to have the range of generations :- As the First Birthday is a very Special Occasion. Some have been quite small and intimate, others busier due to family size. Also home is a place where close family may well feel safe, comfortable, etc. As older relatives sometimes have mobility issues, etc.

We recently attended a 21st Birthday Party, at a familiar venue. Though first time I've been there for a Birthday Party. It was an enjoyable event, and suitable venue. Seemed suitable for a variety of events, as good sized hall, etc.

  7. Send out invites :- I believe that a lot of people do often make use of computer / internet to make / produce their own invitations. They can be so nice, and great quality. I know family and friends who have produced some wonderful invitation cards in this way.

  8. Organise the gifts :- I was thinking more of prize gifts for party games. Old fashioned games such as Pass the Parcel, Musical Chairs, Pin the Tail on the Donkey, etc are all Great Fun. Gifts depend on type of party, guests, theme, etc.
