Miles Kelly Convertible Playbook - Review & Competition

I've been a bookworm for as long as I can remember. Noah enjoys his books too, perhaps not as much as I did but he still gets so much joy from them. For these reasons I love working with publishers and a favourite of mine has got to be Miles Kelly. Not only do they produce the most fantastic books but their PR team are fabulous too, it's always a pleasure to work with them.

Miles Kelly recently brought out a new range of convertible playbooks and I was sent one of each to try out. The convertible playbooks are storybooks for children from 3 years old and onward. These are more than just a book because they easy folds into buildings and contain little pop out characters too. There are so many ways that children can enjoy these playbooks.

As you can see by the photo's above the playbooks are regular books and contain a story but there are also instructions inside which are to help you with setting up the playbook and character aspect to it. I decided to review the farm playbook for the purpose of this review and I decided to set it up whilst Noah was napping and it was really straight forward and easy to do.

Noah has thoroughly enjoyed the farm playbook and has had hours of fun with it. His favourite things to do is to create his own little stories, put all the animals inside the barn one by one and of course make all the animal noises.

I think the convertible playbooks are such a great idea, they add a new dynamic to story telling and they are fantastic for imaginative play too.
There are lots of details on the book and there are also a lot of different characters included too. I do have to add that the figures can fall down easily if your child is heavy handed like Noah is but he soon learnt that he needed to be a bit more gentle with them.

There are currently three convertible playbooks to choose from, a castle, farm and firehouse but I imagine more will be added to the range in the future as they are wonderful. They usually cost £14.99 but at the moment are on sale for just £11.00 each.

What a great week! On Sunday we had a lazy day and just went for a walk around our local park, Towneley Park. We had a nosy in the museum too, like we usually do. No matter how many times we pay a visit we always enjoy it and are so lucky to have it on our doorstep. Monday saw the day we were looking forward to for weeks, our private gender scan! I was right all a long and we are indeed team pink! I hope at our 20 week scan they can double confirm it because the whole family have gone crazy when it comes to little dresses and everything pink. Tuesday saw Noah's nursery teacher and key person come for their home visit as he starts nursery next week. He will only be going twice a week for three hours at a time and I'm so nervous as he's always just been with me. We've been playgroups and soft plays but I've never left him anywhere so I'm a little anxious about it. I know he will love it once he's got into the swing of it though. The rest of the week was spent shopping for baby girl clothes, meals out and visiting family!

What have you been up to this week?

15 Weeks Pregnant - Baby #2

This pregnancy is just flying by! I can't believe I'm already 15 weeks pregnant (16 weeks by the time I post this!) It certainly goes a lot faster the second time around when you already have a toddler to chase about. I've also felt so much more relaxed in this pregnancy too having done it all before. I don't find myself googling twinge or symptom and just feel like I'm enjoying it more.

Baby

The baby is now the size of a navel orange and weighs roughly 2.5 oz. The babies skin is transluscent and if you could peek inside my womb you could see the blood vessels forming beneath the skin. The baby has also starting to grow hair not just on the head but on the body which will help protect them from the exposure to the amniotic fluid. They are also quite active now and I already know that because I can feel the baby move quite frequently now, ever so gently but a constant reminder that they are there.

Mummy
I've been feeling great lately. I do always feel tired but not half as bad as I did in first trimester, my nausea has completely gone too. Craving wise I've been obsessed with anything orange! Fanta Zero, fresh orange juice, oranges, tangerines, carrots! I keep thinking what happens if my skin turns orange, ha ha! Mood wise I've been a bit emotional which is understandable with so many hormones rushing through my body right now. My bump has gotten a tiny bit bigger but I still think to people who don't know I'm pregnant they'll just think I have a fat belly! I'm at that awkward middle stage when it comes to the bump! I've also felt lots of stretching in my stomach muscles over the last few days and I remember that panicking me in my first pregnancy but this time around I know what's happening. My belly button is also threatening to pop out at any given moment just like it did with Noah too! Yuck!

On my 16 week post next week I'll be writing about our gender scan but if you can't wait till then you can read it here where I announced the gender of our little one!

Team blue or team pink? What do you think?

Strange ways pregnancy can effect you

When you are growing a little human inside you there are many things you expect to happen. You know you will develop a baby bump and have cravings for weird foods. You may also have morning sickness for a while or be extremely fatigued. There are some more unusual changes that can also take place and it’s helpful to learn about the odd ways pregnancy can affect you.

The body
Your body is not normally ready to give birth. Many changes take place for delivery. Your pelvis prepares to deliver your baby by separating in the middle. The cervix softens and the uterine muscle relaxes, it’s all part of the process of making the delivery possible. In addition to your breasts getting larger and your feet are likely to grow as well. The arch flattens sometimes from the extra weight and this can cause your feet to get longer and wider. But fear not, you have another reason to go shopping! We always need more excuses to buy more new shoes.

Your skin can be affected by hormones too. You may develop dark spots, skin tags, dryness and other skin changes. Sunscreen and some natural oils can help and thankfully these skin problems will disappear after pregnancy.

The senses

Pregnancy can have many effects on your senses too. In both my pregnancies I've experienced heightened
senses. From a super human sense of smell through to super sonic hearing! Sometimes this is a good thing, other times it's not.

Hormonal changes may also effect your eyes in many different ways. Water retention can actually change your cornea, which could affect your sight. This is probably a temporary change, which is why laser surgery is certainly not a good idea while you’re pregnant.
Understanding vision problems that might occur will keep you from panicking if it happens. Once your vision is back to normal, you can think about how laser surgery would let you get rid of glasses and contacts now that your baby takes all your attention.

The brain
If you feel pregnancy is causing you to forget things then you’re probably right. It’s not known what causes it but you can combat the effects of baby fog by getting enough sleep, keeping hydrated and trying to take it easy as much as you can.

The amazing process of bringing a child into the world also has some unique side effects but we wouldn't have it any other way. Bleeding gums, fat feet, hairy faces, mood swings - it's all part of the process and we get a beautiful baby at the end of it.

Did you experience any strange changes in pregnancy?

Degustabox - August

Another month brings another Degustabox. Every month I say it but we always look forward to receiving our box as it's always full to the brim of brands we already know and brands that are completely new to us. It's a great way to be introduced to new brands but I also love the fact that it contains some staple brands also. We've never been disappointed with any of the boxes we've received and we've been reviewing them for quite some time now, so kudos to Degustabox for that.

Here's what was inside August's box.

1. Tabasco Sauce - £1.99
2. Clipper Tea - £1.59
3. Aromatic Thai Noodles NutriPot - £2.49

4. Moroccan Couscous NutriPot - £2.49
5. Dorset Cereals Bircher Muesli - £3.49
6. Get More Multivitamins Drink - £1.45

7. Oloves Olives - £1.00
8. Mahou Cinco Estrellas - £1.20
9. Geeta's Curry Pastes - 2 x £1.00
10. Willy Chase's Fit Corn - £2.19
11. Rakusen's Snackers - 2 x £1.29 & £1.49

As usual our box was literally filled to the brim with products as you can see by the picture above. It felt like it had a exotic theme this month with the curry pastes, the beer and the noodles. I've really enjoyed the Rakusen Snackers in particular as they are low fat and low calorie, not so much when dipped in red pepper hummus though but of course that's optional. Nick on the other hand didn't take long to drink the Mahou and it took him right back to our holiday in May as that was the beer you could get throughout Majorca. Another fantastic month from Degustabox.

Degustabox costs £12.99 per month but if you would like to try it for the first time use BLDEG15 at the checkout to receive a whooping £6.00 off!

What products or brands would
you like to see in Degustabox next?

- We were sent this product for the purpose of this review however all opinions are my own.
