Gender Predicting with Old Wives Tales

Today we have our private gender scan and we are so excited! Before we find out and announce what gender we are having I've put together a gender predicting post based on some of the classic old wives tales. I thought it would be a bit of fun and something lovely to look back at once we know the gender and once the baby is here too!

1. How are you carrying? High it's a girl, low it's a boy! I'm carrying high, a lot higher than I did when expecting Noah but with being 16 week it could change yet.
Prediction: Girl

2. The baking powder test. Add a teaspoon of baking powder to a cup and wee in to it. If it fizzes it's a boy, if it doesn't it's a girl.
As disgusting as this sounds it was quite funny to do! It fizzed but I'm pretty sure it'd fizz with water too!
Prediction: Boy

3. How is your skin? They say girls steal your beauty! My skin has been awful. A mix of greasy and dry skin, spots but also dry at the same time! I'm certainly now glowing, not just yet anyway!
Prediction: Girl

4. Baby names. If you can only agree on a name for a certain gender it could mean you are carrying that sex. That was true for Noah and so far we only really like one name and that is for a girl.
Prediction: Girl

5. It's all about the cravings. If you crave sweet things it could mean girl, if you're all about salty or sour it's supposed to be a boy. I can't get enough ice lollies, lemonade and oranges at the moment.
Prediction: Girl.

6. Chinese Gender Predictor. Chinese birth charts use your age at conception and the month you conceived to work out the sex of your baby. It was correct when I did it with Noah but then again it is only 50/50!
Prediction: Girl

7. Dad's weight gain. If your partner puts on weight with you and enjoys the same cravings as you it could mean girl. Yes! Nick has been indulging too and says he feels he has put on weight. He's also tucking into my lemonade and ice lolly stash too!
Prediction: Girl

8. Morning sickness and nausea.
Sickness and nausea means girl, feeling fine means a boy. I've had terrible nausea this time around, it lasted 14 weeks.
Prediction: Girl

9. Shape of belly. If carrying high with a round bump it means girl, carrying low with a neat bump means boy. I'm certainly the first!
Prediction: Girl

10. Side you sleep on.
Right side means girl and left means boy. I've always been most comfortable on my left but ever since falling pregnant I've found myself sleeping on my right.
Prediction: Girl

11. Breast test.
If a pregnant woman's left breast is bigger than the right it means girl and vice versa obviously means boy. My right breast is bigger but it always has been. They've also both gotten bigger in general.
Prediction: Boy

12. Nipple colour.
If they have darkened it's a boy, if they've remained the same it mean's girl. I think they've darkened slightly!
Prediction: Boy

13. Headaches. If you have been getting more headaches than usual in pregnancy it could mean you are carrying a boy. I've not had any more than usual, thankfully.
Prediction: Girl

14. Moodiness and a Little Pecker.
If you feel really moody it means girl because of all the extra oestrogen. If you are feeling happy and smiley it means a boy! I'm moodier than usual, get stressed easier and also a lot more emotional.
Prediction: Girl

15. What is Mummy's prediction?
71% of Mum's predict correctly when it comes to the gender of their baby. I've thought girl all along but only time will tell.

Prediction: Girl

Results
Girl: 12/15
Boy: 3/15

Going off the old wives tales the results are quite conclusive! I have to say I would be very surprised if the baby wasn't a girl at the scan, not because of these light hearted old wives tales but I just have that feeling. We'll find out on Monday! Any last bets? Team blue or team pink?

  2. Some are so true. I had good skin & had girls, however. So it's a fun, light-hearted thing.

  3. Nice hats. Seems most are keen to know. Yet it is lovely to get to know / find out gender when baby is born. Though I suppose it makes life easier to be able to prepare room, clothing etc for little one.

  5. So many Old Wives Tales in regards to predicting sex of baby. Good fun to look back on, and determine accuracy :- As you say 50/ 50 chance by toss of coin or anything else really.

Family and friends likely to be excited about the arrival of a new baby.
