A Picture's Worth A Thousand Words

Photography has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. Back when I was a child I'd much prefer to buy a roll of film or disposable camera instead of a kids magazine or a new toy. I'd then spend the day out in the garden studying things to photograph, taking my time to frame the shot and really took pride in what I was doing. There was also something so exciting about waiting for my film to be developed and then flicking through them once I'd collected them.

Having a passion for photography from such a young age it's not a surprise that I carried it through to adulthood. However when I studied the subject at College it diluted my passion and made my hobby seem more like a chore. For me that isn't what photography is about as I feel you don't necessarily need to study the subject to know or learn what to do.

I have to admit that when I left education it left me feeling a little uninspired when it came to photography but I decided to keep my camera anyway. I always knew the passion for photography would come back to me and it did, when I had my son Noah.

Ever since the day my son was born I've made sure to take a photograph pretty much every single day, whether it's on my DSLR or on my camera. I've documented so many special moments on my camera from first smiles and first steps through to a DIY cake smash and baby announcements. I will continue to point and shoot but there are times when local service professionals are required and this is something I'll be looking into when the baby is born. I'd love to book a newborn photography shoot for her and also have some sibling photographs taken too.

Is photography a passion of yours?

  5. I've always been interested in photography, but never took it up seriously. I wish I had sometimes! It always took a back seat to football, cricket and music I'm afraid!
