5 Extraordinary Places To Live Or Visit In The UK

AD - This is a PR collaboration.

If you have a love for all things cool and interesting, then chances are you might like a town or city that shares your passion for knowledge. You might expect the first cities to be listed as Cambridge and Oxford, but anyone who loves all things nerdy already knows that they have plenty to offer. In fact, they’ve taken the spotlight a little too long – so where else could become the home of museum lovers?

London - The National Archives
This one might take more than a one-day visit, and if you’re lucky enough to live in London, this is an absolute go-to for a trawl through. The Domesday Book, Henry VIII’s divorce papers from Anne Boleyn, the Treaty of Versailles are all housed here. History lovers rejoice: your new home has been found!

Bristol - The Clifton Observatory and Caves
This Bristolian observatory and caves sit above the Avon Gorge and showcase incredible views of Clifton Suspension Bridge as well as a bird’s eye view of Bristol itself. The observatory was first built as a windmill in 1766, which was then owned by William West in the mid-1800s. He converted it into an artist studio and installed a camera obscura, which still works to this very day. Through this vintage contraption, you can see a panoramic view of the city and the surrounding area. Bristol also has an abundance of independent shops, bars, and cafes, which all make for great places to read and meet like-minded people. If you’re looking at relocating, finding a Bristol based solicitor is your first step.

Powys - Spaceguard Centre
Did you know: between 100-150 tonnes of space materials hit the Earth’s atmosphere every day – some of which turns into shooting stars! The Spaceguard centre has one big aim, which is to “provide timely information to the public, press, media, and education about the threat of asteroid and comet impacts, and the ways in which we can predict and deal with them.”

Jodrell Bank - Cheshire
This place provided the backdrop to BBC’s Star Gazing Live, and for a good reason. It is home to the Lovell Telescope and, as a result, is now a hub for world-renowned scientists. It is currently housing a project that links six other British radio telescopes, all into a dish spanning 217km.

Lacock Village - Wiltshire
If you’d love to see the estate of the Bennet family estate, then you can actually go and see the real-life Meryton of Pride and Prejudice, and not to mention Godric's Hollow from Harry Potter. Card-carrying enthusiasts will be pleased to know that this is National Trust site, complete with its own medieval village.

If you’re someone who’s looking to find a like-minded town to live in, then hopefully we’ve got you covered here. Even if it’s just a day trip, exploring towns that truly enjoy their history is great fun. Towns and cities that embrace their history tend also to host other activities which make for a good hometown; such as great bars, good book-reading cafes and arts events. Whether you visit for an estate agent or just the museum has yet to be seen.

  10. Hoping that Roads, Paths, Pavements, etc are repaired / maintained to a high standard and cost effectively soon. Seems some repairs have been done, not all to a satisfactory standard. As some repairs seem to fail within a short time. Materials, standards and value for money are important aspects.

Roads with potholes can lead to discomfort / pain :- As vibration can set off nerve pain. Thus lead to individuals maybe seeking Doctor's appointment, pain relief, etc. Which can also be costly.

  11. "5 Extraordinary Places to Live..."

    This (Monday 17th - Sunday 23rd June 2019 ) is Children"s Hospice Week.

Apparently on Monday 17th June 2019 there was an unfortunate Road Traffic Accident (RTA) in Richmond UK. The media showed the area where the RTA occurred. The roads and pavements appear to be in great condition (unlike the first photo on this blog, UK - Though not Richmond).

The RTA involved motorbike and an elderly lady ( who was crossing the road, and appears to be a designated pedestrian crossing).

We have heard and read via the media that young and older people are to remain active (and to be encouraged to be mobile / active) as it is beneficial for health. Good quality paths, roads, etc are likely to enable / allow people to be mobile / active.

It was convoy of the Royal family :- Prince William and Duchess Catherine of Cambridge ( nee Kate Middleton) who were travelling to an Order of the Garter Event. Unfortunately the elderly lady involved in the RTA has a fractured pelvis, so will now be immobile for some time. Accidents do happen, and apparently an investigation began promptly. Let's hope that Road Safety is Improved.

  12. Recently there are several pockets of areas either closed off, diversions, temporary traffic lights, etc. As areas of road works are in progress. One area is nearby our home, and it has massively impacted on the local community, as well as causing delays, congestion, noise, etc.

For a long time we have become aware of an increasing amount of necessary road repairs, pavements which require repair, blocked drains / gulleys ( which means a risk of flooding if / when rain occurs. Rain being a natural / normal weather event / occurrence). So it seems that road maintenance was not occurring. Why?. As it is still required / necessary for everyday quality of life outdoors. Austerity has since been mentioned. Though should this be an austerity measure. As poor quality roads can be a Risk to Health, Safety, Quality of Life for the Public. Public Funds (taxation) is what provides funding for Roads, Road Maintenance. The Public NEED to be PROTECTED.

Media has mentioned that timescales for road repairs vary from one area / region/ locality to another. Are some areas PRIORITISED over others? What about EQUALITY and DIVERSITY? As ALL of the PUBLIC deserve a quality of life, a good quality service, etc.

Now that we have several - numerous pockets of roads repairs it has a huge impact on day to day living. Just trying to get about :- Need to allow more time to reach destination due to delays, congestion. Congestion can lead to noise. As noise from works, windows open for fresh air ( at home open windows for fresh air, in car open windows for fresh air at times. July :- Summer. Also weather forecast :- Heatwave). Noise from some inconsiderate car drivers :- From their radio or CD player within car, but volume loud enough for others within the community to hear this. When they are stationery due to delays, temporary traffic lights, congestion :- Music which can be loud is audible within the community to others who are trying to get on with their daily life, daily activities, etc. Can be so disturbing, etc).

Please, Please, Please :- Aim to have a continual, ongoing maintenance roads service in order to allow the public to have some Quality of Life, Safety, an Improved level of Health and Wellbeing. Some people will be working night shift, etc :- These are likely to be Nurses, Doctors, Employed Carers. Those in POOR Health NEED to be ENABLED to recover. Their Carers can be more productive / caring / effective if they have had the opportunity of getting good quality sleep. It is difficult enough to sleep during the day :- particularly in the summer when it can be bright and hot :- Due to natural weather. Then the dreaded noise of lawn mowers. Please, Please :- Prioritise Human Health, Safety, Wellbeing, Quality of Life. Regular employment for individuals would also be a bonus, rather than seasonal work :- Summer Roads works. We already know summer may be when most likely able to get on with outdoors work. Though surely other seasons allow some road works to be completed successfully, so maybe a reduction :- Though if make use of appropriate weather conditions, maybe there would not be such a major negative impact on the public in the summer due to road works.
