All About My Year - 2018

Happy New Year! 2018 seemed to go so very fast and was jam-packed full of adventures and big changes so I just had to document it, just like I did last year, on my 2017 post which can be found here.

1. What did you do for your birthday?
We spent it abroad in Majorca! My birthday falls the week before half term, in May, so it works out a great time to book our annual family holiday as it's nice weather and is cheaper too! We spent 11 nights in Puerto Pollensa and it was an amazing place to celebrate (or commiserate) the big 30!

2. What's the biggest thing to happen to you?
As mentioned above, I turned 30! This felt like such a huge milestone to me and the whole thing made me feel so anxious! I counted down the last months, weeks, days, hours of my 20's and guess what? When I turned 30, I felt so different! Age is just a number right? *sobs*

3. What was the biggest thing to happen for your child/children?
Noah started school and turned 5, both of which I think are huge milestones. Again, the prospect of him starting school was something which left me feeling ill, however, he's blown me away. We had a few weeks of separation anxiety and lots of sobbing at drop off, but he's come on leaps and bounds. He's also trying very hard when it comes to phonics and is finally picking up a pen more. When it comes to Ava, well, she's a force to be reckoned with. The biggest thing for her was probably learning to walk early in the year, just before turning 11 months. Then, of course, turning one!

4. Could you pick a favourite week of 2018?
That's such a difficult question as I could choose half a dozen, but it would have to be either our holiday in May (11 days of sun, sea, and sand - what more could you ask for) or Christmas because it really is the most magical time of the year.

5. Do you have a favourite photograph of yourself from 2018?
It has got to be this family photo that was taken on the day of Ava's 1st birthday! It's not often that we have a photo taken of the four of us, one in which everyone is playing ball.

6. What was your best day out?
We love our family days out and have had some great ones in 2018, from trips to muddy farms and sandy days at the seaside, through to adventures at theme parks and exploring in museums. We went to Blackpool a couple of times and one of those days stand out to me the most. We went to the arcades, and to the sealife centre. We then spent time paddling in the sea, built sandcastles together and collected shells.

7. What is the best film you've seen?
Good films are few and far between these days, so when a great film comes along it really blows me away. Bird Box was probably my favourite film of the year, or at least the one that springs to mind first having only watched it a week or so ago. It's on Netflix and is totally worth a watch.

8. Is there anything you wish didn't happen?
I had a loss in the family towards the end of the year and although we were estranged, it still hurt and of course I wish that hadn't happened.

9. What would you like to achieve or improve for 2019?
I just looked back on my goals from last year and was glad to see that I've achieved a couple of them, a few still being a work in progress. My goals for 2019 is to finally lose the baby weight, and to keep it off because I'm becoming quite the yo-yo dieter. I want to take up another hobby besides blogging, comping, and reading. I also want to further my blog and social media.

10. How will you be celebrating/did you celebrate New Years Eve?
We had another lovely night in with the children. We tucked them up in bed and then celebrated the New Year together as a couple. What better way could we spend it?

2018 was a great year, full of fond memories and milestones. Here's to 2019! I'm tagging and Rebecca from Mum of a Premature Baby, Jess from Tantrums To Smiles,  Michaela from Adventures of a Yorkshire Mum and Clare from Emmy's Mummy to see if they'd like to take part too!

We've had glorious weather for most of the week, so as per usual we've spent so much time outside enjoying it. That being said I had to keep Noah off nursery all week because he's not been well, he caught some sort of viral infection. He's had a bad chest, cough, temperature and runny nose. It wasn't fair to send him in and midweek both Ava, Nick and I caught it too. We've all been so poorly! Despite the bugs we've still done a lot this week, with a trip to the spring fair, trips to the park and the paddling pool has been out again too. We still aren't 100% but we are hoping we'll feel better by Tuesday as we are going on holiday! We are so excited, cold or no cold!

Another action packed week for us. The weather started a bit poor but towards the end of the week it turned to glorious sun shine. It's been as hot here as it is in Spain, we've loved it! Highlights this week have got to be out weekly family day out, this week to Knowsley Safari Park. It was amazing to see rhinos, lions, baboons, giraffes and zebras up close. We had a Lion walk right past out car, within reaching distance and rhinos are so inquiring to watch. It was such a great day out, even though the baboons vandalised our car, ha ha! Other highlights have go to be splashing in the paddling pool, a fancy meal out in the sun, visiting family and Star Wars day!

We are now nearing the end of April. I can't believe how fast this year is going. The weather this week has been terrible, but as always we've not let it stop us from getting outdoors. We've been out lots of walks and trips to the park, in between Noah being at nursery, play dates, shopping and visiting family. It's not long now until we are going abroad and I can't wait for proper sunshine!

The weather this week started off terribly, lots of rain and strong winds. Thankfully from Wednesday we had such glorious weather and we've totally made the most of it. We've been outdoors most of the week, smothered in sun cream and wearing our new summer clothes. The sun has made me so much more excited for our holiday next month! I cannot wait, especially now the weather has started to go rubbish again. Highlights this week were baby group with Ava, lunching in the sun, playing in the garden with the water table, visiting family and enjoying lots of ice creams!

Another week has flown by in the blink of an eye. Ava had her 1 year injections this week. My poor baby had four, two in each leg and she was so upset. Thankfully they didn't make her unwell and after the initial shock of them she's been fine.

We had a great week overall and I've decided to be brief to write a couple of highlights. The first being our weekly family day out to one of our favourite places, Bowland Wild Boar Park. Noah held chicks and both kids were in their element running around the open fields. Disney on Ice was another, both kids loved it. Ava was dancing and waving throughout and Noah was mesmerised by the Toy Story scenes. Tonight, Nick and I had a long overdue date night, a few hours without the kids. We went to Nando's, to the arcade and then to the cinema to see the film A Quiet Place. We really need to start making time for just the two of us, we loved it.

The weather has been a little kinder to us this week and we didn't take it for granted, we made the most of it and have spent a lot of time outside. With it being the second week of Easter half term I was so glad that we weren't stuck inside. We've been on so many walks this week, a lot of them involving rock hunting! Rock hunting is a new craze which was started on social media, it's such a great idea! People find and paint rocks and then hide them in local parks for children to find. The photo of Noah with the Kinder Surprise is actually a painted rock believe it or not! If you'd like to know more about rock hunting I'd recommend searching for groups on Facebook or asking friends. We collected some rocks this week and will be painting and hiding our own soon. Maybe I'll do a little blog post about it!

In other news we had baby group this week. Usually it's just Ava and I but with Noah being off for half term he came with us. He was really excited to go and really enjoyed himself. I think that just shows how fantastic Hartbeeps is. We then had lunch in the cafe, a stroll around the allotments and then my Mum came and met us there for the afternoon. The sun was shining and overall it was one amazing day. It's made me so excited for Summer and warmer days.
The rest of the week was spent doing work on the house, having play dates, trips to the park, shopping, visiting family, the usual really.

This week has been the first week of Easter half term and we've packed so much into it. We started with a family day out to Blackpool on Sunday. I managed to win Merlin annual passes last year so we got to go to Madame Tussauds (Noah loved the new Marvel exhibit) and Blackpool Tower free of charge. We did plan on going to the Sealife Centre too but we ran out of time. We had such a great day, it was nice to feel a little bit of sun on our faces and cannot wait for it to finally start warming up. The rest of the week has gone by in a crazy blur, we've been so busy. We've had play dates, been on numerous walks, had an Easter egg hunt, been to an Easter party and so much more. We've not had one single lazy day, I'm worn out! I think I need a parent half term once Noah's back at nursery, ha ha.
