Things To Do When You’re Visiting London For A Weekend With The Kids

For many parents, visiting London is a must-do with the kids, especially when they get older and start to get excited about the country’s capital. However, if you’re anything like me, you’ll often worry about how you’re going to keep them entertained all weekend without tiring them out too much. And there’s always some worry about the hustle and bustle and often frantic atmosphere that you’ll find in the most popular places.

So, to help you plan your trip to London, I’ve put together some of the best activities and places to visit, which should keep the whole family entertained.

1. Go on the London Eye
The London Eye is one of the most iconic features in London’s skyline and with special family and children rates available, it’s an affordable way to spend 30 minutes. It’s also a great way to show your kids just how vast London is, pointing out all the highlights from up above. On a good day, you should be able to see for around 40km, so you might need a few turns to spot all of the best bits.

2. Visit Some Museums
Museums can often evoke a ‘but they’re so boring!’ reaction from the kids – but London has some of the best museums in the world to offer.
If they’re fascinated by dinosaurs (or even if they’re not), the Natural History Museum has the ability to take your breath away, especially when you see the blue whale skeleton that’s recently replaced Dippy the Diplodocus. There’s also the Science Museum and the British Museum (to name a few), both of which offer great entertainment for the kids.

3. Go to the Theatre
No trip to London would be complete without a night at the theatre. From Wicked to Grease and Matilda to School of Rock, there’s something for everyone, with each show creating memories that last a lifetime. There are even kid-friendly performances available for little ones, including The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Gruffalo’s Child – but if you’re trying to please an audience of various ages, Disney’s Aladdin or The Lion King are fantastic choices.

And don’t forget to check out places like Discount London for the latest deals on theatre tickets. Packages often include pre-theatre meals, which helps take the hassle out of finding places to eat near the theatre. Plus it adds to the build of excitement you’ll all feel about seeing such a standout show.

Obviously, these three options are just a small insight into the vast amount of things you can do in London. Just do plenty of research beforehand and create a full itinerary – that way, you’ll be able to plan in snacks, breaks and naps (if necessary) amongst all the other exciting activities you’re going to do.

Where would you take the kids whilst visiting London?

  1. Oh, I do love a visit to London! So much to see and do. A school friend moved there with her family when I was in my teens. I have visited many times. We loved to spend time together, and her family always so welcoming. Sightseeing brilliant. As you mention there is a variety of aspects to consider when visiting with children. Hamleys Toy shop was always a popular place for families with children. Hyde Park, Kew Gardens, Green Park, playparks, etc were also great for families. So much to choose from. She many happy memories.

  3. Go on the London Eye :- Got the opportunity a couple of years ago. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience, weather was wonderful. Views were great. Company was great. Everyone was so happy, friendly and welcoming. It has been said that good weather can bring out the best in people. A sunny April day, some British folks, some American tourists. Such joy and wonderful interaction. American family chatty and friendly and loving touring Britain. Great memories. Others I have heard from who went on London Eye also thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
