TotsBots PeeNut - Review

Being a blogger there have been many exciting things that I've taken part in over the years but the most exciting opportunity to date landed in my inbox a few weeks ago. Along with a handful of other bloggers I was given the opportunity to review a product from a brand that I absolutely adore weeks before anyone else in the world. How incredible is that?!

After weeks of secrecy I can now introduce to you the brand new range of reusable nappies from TotsBots! Say hello to the PeeNut! 

The PeeNut is a rather revolutionary reusable nappy and is totally different from anything else that TotsBots have ever released. The concept behind it is that it's a brand new and totally unique nappy system which not only works but is super simple to use too. They describe it as.. ‘Simply brilliant – in a nutshell’

The PeeNut consists of a water proof wrap with different sized inserts which simply fasten in side of the nappy. The images below show how easy it is to get set up. No fiddly pockets or attached inserts just easy peasy snap in inserts - peenuts! 

Depending on the age of your child and how much they wee will determine how many inserts you will need. I have been using a large and small insert with Noah and it would last a good 4/5 hours without any leaks which I think is great considering he is 21 months old and a heavy wetter.

Now this is where it gets really interesting. Once it's time to change the nappy you don't need to change the whole thing, simply remove the wet inserts, give the inside of the wrap a wipe, if needed, attach a new insert and you are ready to go!

What we love -
How neat and slim they fit. I don't have to worry about trousers that won't fit over his big nappy bum because they are so neat fitting.

The inserts are super absorbent and I feel confident that they will do their job. They also dry surprisingly fast considering how they are quite thick.

There is less to wash because you can reuse the wrap and simply remove the inserts. The 4 wraps they sent me lasted us 3 days! 

I think it's great that you can adapt the PeeNut for how you want it to function. Want to use it overnight? Try it with 2 large inserts. For a couple of hours in the day? Try just the 1 insert. This flexibility is fantastic.

I love them just as much as I love the EasyFit but I think the Peenut would have the edge when going on holiday and wanting to cloth bum while there - less to pack! 

For a wrap and day to night insert the prices start at £15.99 but you can buy wraps and inserts separately or even in a bundle too. I always find TotsBots to be very good value for money.

What we would change - 
We absolutely love the Peenut and there isn't much I would change but there is one little thing I would like to mention. As you can only fasten the insert to the front of the nappy sometimes we've had a problem with it staying in place once it's wet. Once the insert has any weight to it sometimes it tends to come loose at the back and bunch up slightly at the front. It probably doesn't help that Noah is a toddler who is extremely active and a heavy wetter too but being able to secure the insert to the back of the nappy as well as the front would make them absolutely perfect.

Overall thoughts - The whole idea behind the Peenut is simply fantastic! It's not just a great idea though it's one that works too. TotsBots are yet again pushing the boundaries when it comes to making cloth mainstream!

Our switch to cloth nappies - Real Nappy Week 2015 - #RNW2015

I have always been fascinated with cloth nappies and always admired the beautiful prints and array of different designs. That being said when I was pregnant with Noah I didn't really look into using them and automatically went with the norm which was disposables. 

As Noah got older I would think "I wish I had of given cloth a go.." and at 13 months old I thought well better late than never! After discussing reusable nappies with my good friend Kelly from More than just a Mummy I finally felt confident enough to make that leap and shortly after bought a dozen "cheapies" to get me started.

I intended to give cloth a try, a trial period sort to speak. I would see how I got on with them and then if I liked it, would buy more. At first I struggled to get the right fit and experienced many leaks but stuck with it and when I learnt to fit them correctly I then had no leaks whatsoever! When you switch from disposable to reusable you don't realise you fit a cloth nappy totally different, you don't know any better. Two months later and we are still using reusable nappies and absolutely love them. 

There are so many pros to using cloth nappies and ditching the disposables, from saving money through to helping the environment but for me, it's even more than that. Call me strange but I get such a good feeling from putting my son into a nice fluffy nappy. Stranger, still I enjoy washing and preparing his nappies and find it very therapeutic. I just so wish I had started earlier on but like they say, better late than never!

I have amassed quite the collection of nappies since we started this year and probably now have around 30. My stash mainly consists of baba+boo, bambino mio, and internet cheapies but I still want to try other brands too. It's true what they say, cloth nappies are an addiction! 

I plan on posting lots of cloth nappy related posts going forward but for now I will share my little introduction to cloth. If you are thinking of making the switch then do, it's never too late!

Review: Freeva Cloth Nappies

Before trying out our Freeva nappy I was a cloth nappy virgin. Ever since having Noah I was toying with the idea of trying cloth. When I saw the PR request asking if any bloggers would like to test out a Freeva cloth nappy I inquired straight away, this was our chance! I was offered a variety of different nappies to choose from but I decided to play it safe and go for Snowy white, after all what's cuter than a little baby in a bright white nappy?

Freeva nappies are;
One size. They fit both babies and toddlers from 6lb to 33lb. 
Made out of waterproof fabric on the outside and soft fabric inside.
All Freevia nappies are supplied with 1 microfiber insert.
The waistband is fastened with velcro. 
Poppers to adjust the height of the nappy.
Come in a wide variety of colours and patterns. 
Excellent value for money.

On arrival I loved the quality. I had nothing to compare it to but I wasn't expecting it to feel as good as it did. I envied Noah's botty for being able to wear something so soft! 

Freeva nappies come with a set of instructions which was a god send for a newbie like me. I wouldn't of had a clue about pre washing them and probably would of put the nappy straight onto Noah which would of been a big error. Pre washing the nappies a couple of times enhance the absorbency. 

Our very first experience with a cloth nappy was very positive. Not only did Noah look absolutely adorable kicking about in cloth but he also looked very comfortable too. He was in the nappy a little longer than I planned as he ended up taking an unexpected nap in his pram so it did leak around the legs but that was after 3 hours. That being said I was very impressed because the nappy only had the one insert and Noah is also a heavy wetter. I have to add how easy they are to wash and dry too which is important to us parent's.  

My only negative is that it would be better if Freeva nappies were supplied with two inserts rather than the one. That is my only niggle.
