Supporting Your Child At Home With Online Teaching Resources

AD - This is a collaborative post.

In today’s digital age, online teaching resources have become invaluable tools for supporting your child’s education at home. Whether you’re supplementing school learning or online homeschooling full time, these resources offer flexibility, engagement, and a wealth of information. Here’s how you can effectively support your child’s learning at home with online teaching resources.

Identify Your Child’s Learning Needs and Interests

Understanding your child’s unique learning style, strengths, and areas where they need extra help is the first step in choosing the right online resources. Tailor the materials to match their interests to keep them engaged and motivated. For example, if your child loves science, explore websites like National Geographic Kids or BBC Bitesize for interactive science lessons and experiments.

Utilise a Variety of Online Platforms

There are numerous online platforms offering a wide range of educational materials, from videos and interactive games to virtual labs and e-books. Using a mix of resources can cater to different learning styles and keep your child’s learning experience diverse and stimulating.

Create a Structured Learning Schedule

A consistent schedule helps create a routine and keeps your child focused. Set aside specific times for different subjects, breaks, and leisure activities to mimic a typical school day.

Engage in Interactive and Hands-On Learning

Interactive and hands-on activities can enhance understanding and retention of concepts. Look for resources that offer interactive quizzes, virtual experiments, and project-based learning.

Encourage Independent Learning

Fostering independence in learning helps children develop critical thinking and problem solving skills. Provide resources that allow them to explore topics on their own, and encourage them to take charge of their learning.

Monitor Progress and Provide Feedback

Regularly check your child’s progress to understand how they are coping with the material and identify areas where they may need additional support. Providing constructive feedback can help them improve and stay motivated.

Incorporate Fun and Playful Learning

Learning doesn’t have to be all work and no play. Incorporate educational games and activities that make learning fun and engaging.

Utilise Online Communities and Forums

Online communities and forums can provide additional support and resources. Joining groups of parents and educators can give you access to shared experiences, tips, and recommendations for online learning.

Stay Updated with Educational Trends

Educational technology is constantly evolving. Stay updated with the latest trends and tools to ensure you are providing the best resources for your child’s learning. Follow educational blogs, podcasts, and social media accounts that focus on edtech and online learning to stay informed about new resources and strategies.

Foster a Positive Learning Environment

Create a dedicated, comfortable learning space at home free from distractions. A positive learning environment can enhance focus and productivity. Set up a quiet study area with all necessary supplies, such as a computer, books, and stationery, to create a conducive learning atmosphere.

Supporting your child’s education at home with online teaching resources can be a rewarding experience. By identifying their learning needs, utilising a variety of platforms, creating a structured schedule, and fostering a positive learning environment, you can provide a comprehensive and enjoyable educational experience. Embrace the wealth of online resources available and watch your child thrive academically and personally.

Learning Resources Pretend & Play Calculator Cash Register - Review

Learning Resources are know for their extensive range of award winning learning toys for children aged 2 through to 12. They’ve been creating exciting and ground-breaking toys for the past twenty years and their toys aren’t just for fun but are fantastic learning aids too. They cover a wide range of different areas from Numeracy and Literacy through to Science and Early Years and it comes as no surprise that they've won countless awards for them.

Recently we were asked if we'd like to review their Pretend & Play Calculator Cash Register and with it being something on Noah's wishlist I was more than happy to agree. As you can see by the photo below, Noah was absolutely over the moon when the cash register arrived. Straight away I was impressed with the cash register. Just by looking at the box I could tell that this was a toy that now only would Noah really enjoy but one which I'd approve of too. We were both so excited to play!

The cash register doesn't need to be assembled and it doesn't require any batteries as the calculator is solar powered, this in itself is just what every parent wants! Why can't more toys be like this? The oversized buttons on the till and the large digital display are perfect for young children and a great way for them to practice early maths skills whilst they play. Once out the box we just had to pop in the play money which is included and we were ready to go!

The tray compartment of the till pops open with the press of a button and contains multiple sections to place the money. The cash register comes with a huge bag of the play money; x10 of each coin and x4 £5, £10, £20 and £50 notes. The money, especially the coins are so life like which I think I think makes role play so much more realistic. It also comes with a little notepad and credit card which is a nice added touch.

Once set up I Noah what kind of shop he'd like. After a little bit of deliberation, he decided that he wanted to work in a cafe so he could make Ava and I some lunch. With his cafe idea in mind, we decided to include another Learning Resources toy that we already had, the New Sprouts Soup's On set. On the notepad which comes with the register, I wrote down my order and read it out to him. He then made up a fresh batch of soup, served it in bowls, blew it to make sure it was cool and passed it over to me.

He then rung it up in the till and I paid in cash. Once we'd completed the transaction we did it over and over again and created different scenarios to act out. After Noah's cafe, we had a toy shop, clothes shop, and even a pet shop too! Ava's favourite was the cafe though, she loved to try to help serve the soup and gnaw on the plastic vegetables, which are the perfect size for her little hands.

The Pretend & Play Calculator Cash Register is suitable for ages 3-7, retails at £35.65 and is worth every single penny! It's an amazing toy that is so much fun, it encourages your child's imagination all while teaching them through play. I can't recommend it enough.

I've teamed up with Learning Resources to giveaway a Pretend & Play Calculator Cash Register to one lucky winner! To enter simply use the Gleam form below! Good luck and don't forget to enter my other blog competitions!

Learning Resources Peg Friends Stacking Farm - Review & Giveaway

AD - This is a PR collaboration/review product.

We are huge fans of Learning Resources, something that comes across loud and clear in all of our past reviews with the brand and with every review, our love for them seems to grow. Their toys and games are engaging, exciting, and educational, products which I think all parents should get behind. We were recently sent two products to review, the Super Sorting Pie and the Peg Friends Stacking Farm which I'm writing about today.

Pegboard toys have been a hit with children for generations, in fact, I remember playing with one when I was a little girl. This one though is better than any that I've ever seen. It's a farm themed twist to the classic pegboard that we all know and love. It's designed with little ones in mind, to help build fine motor skills, early matching skills, and the pegs are just the right size for little hands to pull and push them apart.

Included in the set is a foam base with 12 different holes and 24 pegs featuring well-known farm animals. There's a sheep, duck, goose, chick, cat, dog, horse, rabbit, goat, cow, pig and donkey. These pegs are double-sided, showing both sides of each animal, and once set up completely they create 12 different animals each made with two pegs. The foam base measures at 25cm x 25cm, is brightly coloured and depicts a fun farmyard scene.

Ava has taken to the Peg Friends Stacking Farm set like a duck to water, no pun intended! She really enjoys matching up the different animals, saying the name of each animal and likes to make the different animal sounds. It's a great learning tool in so many different ways and it also inspires different role play and imagination scenarios too.

Although Noah is five he really enjoys this toy too which is great to know because it means that Ava will enjoy it for years to come. He sits and plays nicely alongside Ava, helping her out with her animal names, and of course, encourages her to build the biggest peg tower ever! It's lovely to watch them play together so well.

The Learning Resources Peg Friends Stacking Farm is suitable for children from two years of age and retails at just £19.50. Visit the Learning Resources website for more information and enter below for your chance to win one! Good luck and don't forget to check out my other competitions too.

Learning Resources Super Sorting Pie - Review & Giveaway

AD - This is a PR Collaboration / review product.

One of my favourite parts of being a blogger is having the opportunity to work with brands that we love, respect and are proud to promote. Learning Resources are just that. We've been fans for years now and can always count on their toys to be educational, exciting, engaging and entertaining too. They always go down a storm with the kids.

A few weeks ago Learning Resources got in touch to ask if we would like to review something from their website. I picked out a couple of products which I thought the kids would enjoy and they kindly sent us two of them; The Peg Friends Stacking Farm and the Super Sorting Pie. I've decided to write the reviews on separate posts as I'll also be giving away one of each toy. Today's review and giveaway are dedicated to the Super Sorting Pie.

Presented in a sturdy cardboard box, perfect for storing it in, the Super Sorting Pie looked very exciting and really caught both Noah and Ava's attention. They couldn't wait to open it and explore what was inside. Included in the box are the plastic pie base, pie lid, removable divider, game booklet, three double-sided sorting cards, two jumbo tweezers, and 60 fruit shaped counters.

The Super Sorting Pie is suitable for children from 3 years of age (Ava is 2 but is allowed to play with it under my supervision - she always wants to play with what Noah has) and is designed to encourage and develop early numeracy skills. It's also great for building fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and sorting skills.

The kids, of course, wanted to play with it right away so I set up the colour sorting activity first because I knew it was one that they could enjoy together. To do this I simply placed the sorting card on the colour sorting side, inserted it into the base of the pie and placed all the fruit counters into the lid. With 60 fruits (7 fruits in 5 different colours) Noah and Ava had lots to keep them both busy.

Noah recognised the jumbo tweezers from school and was pleased to have some of his own, to use at home. Ava seemed to figure out how to use them pretty quickly and was colour sorting in no time. The jumbo tweezers are great for building the muscles in children's fingers to help with their pincer grip, which is actually something Noah's teacher told me a few months ago.

There are many different ways children can play and learn with the Super Sorting Pie. There are other games to play; sorting into colours, sorting into fruits, sorting into numbers and so on. It's ideal for teaching younger children about different colours and fruits. The kids have both enjoyed choosing what they want to play next and often role play with it too.

The Super Sorting Pie is such a fantastic toy, one which I know the kids will enjoy for years to come. Again, it's suitable for children from three years of age and retails at £23.00. More can be read over on the Learning Resources website.

For your chance to win one please head over to my Instagram page for more details and the terms and conditions. Don't fret if you don't have Instagram though as I'll be setting up another competition with Learning Resources on the blog in a week or so. Good luck and don't forget to enter my other competitions.

Learning Resources - Coding Critters Ranger & Zip - Review & Giveaway

AD - We were sent this product for the purpose of this review.

Just like most children his age, Noah's favourite way to learn is through play. This is why we adore Learning Resources so much. Read past reviews here. Year after year, they continue to create innovative toys and activities which aren't just lots of fun but are educational too. Coding Critters are one of their newest products and we were sent one for the purpose of this review.

Coding Critters are suitable for children from 4-years-old and are the perfect way to introduce youngsters to the world of coding. There are 3 different sets to collect; Ranger & Zip - dogs, Scamper & Sneaker - cats, and Rumble & Bumble - dinosaurs. Each set promotes early STEM development through coding and play, with different activities and challenges to try out.

Included with the Ranger and Zip set:
Playset for coding games including ball, see-saw, house, and slide
Full colour storybook
10 Coding paw prints
3 Cardboard playset decorations
Multilingual quick start guide

The storybook that included with the set is such a fantastic idea. Not only does it introduce children to Ranger and Zip, whilst telling a story, but it also acts as a guide, to both parent and child. Together, we read through the book and coded along with the story.

To code, Noah simply pressed the direction buttons on the Ranger's back to create a coding sequence. Each step is roughly 10.2cm and up to 30 steps can be taken at one time. We coded Ranger to play hide and seek, fetch a ball and caught Zip as he slid down the slide. Noah seemed to pick it up pretty quickly and wanted to code over and over again. There is also an option for free-play and to create your own code games and activities.

Coding Critters aren't just coding robots, they are interactive toys too. When Noah had his fill of coding for the day, he pressed Ranger's nose to activate play mode. He was then able to feed, stroke and play with Ranger. He thought this element was so much fun and he got the giggles when Ranger started to sing and dance!

Coding Critters are fantastic, another genius idea from Learning Resources. Noah hasn't stopped playing and learning with Ranger and Zip since they arrived last week. I'm contemplating ordering him the other two sets, they are that good.
Retailing at £40.00 each, they are suitable for children from 4 years of age. Order online today at Amazon

Back To School Fun With Learning Resources - Review & Giveaway

Noah starts school in just a matter of days and I still can't seem to get my head around it! It's such a huge milestone in his childhood and I suppose I can no longer call him my baby? He's totally ready for school now, although he's still a little nervous about it. Thankfully, a lot of wonderful brands have wanted to collaborate with us on numerous back to school campaigns, which I think has helped to keep him busy him and has made him so much more excited about it too.

Learning Resources were the latest brand that wanted to work with us in the run-up to back to school, which of course delighted us as they are already a much-loved name in our house. Having worked with them in the past and having bought their toys, I can say that their products are one of a kind, and amazing! We're always excited to see what they'll release next.

We were sent two products from a selection they recommended, as they are perfect for children who are about to start school. The first product being the AlphaBee, which allows children to play and learn both at home and on the go!

AlphaBee contains 40 different tiles (26 letter tiles, ten number tiles and 4 shape tiles) and 3 double-sided activity cards. The letter tiles feature uppercase on one side and lowercase on the other. The activity cards encourage different ways to play and learn. The plastic case itself features spaces for tiles to fit into to avoid movement when travelling and keeps everything in an orderly fashion. The case features an easy to open and close latch and a carry handle which is just the right size for little hands.

Alphabee is a great way to encourage a variety of key early learning skills such as; the alphabet, letter recognition, basic spelling, counting, number recognition, shape recognition and more. Noah isn't one to sit and learn the traditional way and prefer to learn through play so products like the AlphaBee are perfect for him. He's enjoyed spelling out his name, with correct casing and likes to sound out each letter as he goes. AlphaBee is suitable for children between the age of 2-6 and retails at £18.00.

The Pretend & Play Original School Set is just the ticket for getting prepared for school. It's a great way for children to gain a little confidence and familiarity before school through role play. It also helps develop early speech and language skills and letter and number recognition.

The Pretend & Play Original School Set folds up into a handy case, perfect for classrooms on the go! It features a double-sided map of the UK and Europe, a calendar, a whiteboard, school clock, stickers, pupil scoreboards, certificates, note paper and various worksheets. Also included is a dry wipe pen, whiteboard eraser, mini classroom bell and two pencils. It really does contain everything you need for being a teacher or student.

I'd have loved this as a child as I was always playing teachers, although my classroom and equipment was make-believe! Noah loves it too and has been playing teacher whilst myself, Daddy and Ava are the children! It's been wonderful to incorporate this set into everyday play, right before he starts school himself. The Pretend & Play Original School Set is suitable for children aged 3-7, with an RRP of £32.50.

Learning Resources have kindly agreed to let me give away one of these wonderful set's here on the blog. How would you like to win either AlphaBee or the School Set? To enter simply use the Gleam form below! Good luck and don't forget to enter my other blog competitions!
