This is one of my favourite pregnancy pictures. I think I was around 6 months pregnant or so. This was before all my stretchmarks appeared and I was rather small at this point. I hadn't put much weight on at this stage either. I love this picture so much as it just sums up my entire pregnancy; peaceful. I felt in my element when I was pregnant and I loved every second of it.

My Maternity Fashion Tip
I was asked by the lovely Angelique (co-owner and creator of the wonderful Snoob Scarf) to share my top Maternity fashion tip with her readers and mine. So here I am!
Before I was pregnant I was fond of wearing floaty day dresses. I never wore tight fitting dresses and avoided them at all costs as I wasn't happy with my figure. Once I begun showing and my bump began getting bigger and bigger I realised that floaty just didn't work for me any more. Wearing something so loose made me look bigger than I was and didn't really show that I was pregnant. I just looked big and shapeless and it wasn't flattering.
This led me to begin experimenting with my Maternity wardrobe. I didn't want to spend a fortune on maternity wear but I knew I needed a few pieces that would see me through the duration of my pregnancy and beyond. So I begun researching stores which stock fashionable maternity wear.
I came across a striped bodycon dress from Topshop and knew I had to have it. It wasn't my usual style but I knew I had to try something different. Like most high street stores you can only buy their Maternity range online so I bought my regular size and had it delivered to home. My first impressions when it arrived was that it looked far too big and like a sack.
Thankfully I tried it on and fell in love. The dress was everything I was looking for; stylish, the perfect length, stretchy, comfortable, supportive and durable. It cost me around £40 and has been worth it's weight in gold as it has been the staple of my wardrobe for my whole pregnancy.
So my top maternity fashion tip is: Show off your bump and bodycon it!
What's in my Hospital Bag?
I have had both hospital bags for baby and I packed for a month or two now. I started preparing pretty early and wish I hadn't as I keep forgetting what I have packed and keep having to look through it all.
I decided to pack two separate bags for the both of us as. Although it will be harder carting two bags into the hospital, it will be easier to keep things organised and easier for Nick to root through when I am barking orders at him whilst in labour.
Below is what I have packed in my bag. I have a feeling I have missed some vital things so if you notice anything that should be added then please let me know!
Clothing-
Dressing gown: I wouldn't of thought of bringing a dressing gown but I have read it makes skin to skin contact and nursing a lot easier. I'm not sure if I will use it or not but it is better to pack it just in case.
PJ's: Another clothing option. I bought a super comfy pair of jersey PJ's to lounge around it.
Nighty: I never wear night shirts so bought a cheap one from Primark. I can see how more convenient a nighty will be rather than PJ's but it will be a hassle for skin to skin. I would prefer to have every option at my disposal though.
Fluffy Socks: I have a thing for fluffy socks, so they are packed!
Slippers: Slip on slippers I have heard are invaluable when in hospital.
Big Knickers and Maternity Bra's: My knickers are huge for comfort after labour and big enough to fit in maternity pads. Maternity bra's, self explanatory.
Comfy Clothing: I still need to decide what to take to wear when leaving the hospital. I am contemplating wearing the clothes I arrived in just so it is less to pack.
Toiletries -
Towel.
Toothbrush and toothpaste.
Travel sized shampoo, body gel, body lotion, deodorant, vaseline, body spray.
Face wipes, deodorant wipes.
Maternity pads and nipple pads.
Perfume and make up (Probably won't use but there if I want it)
Snacks -
Big bar of chocolate, sweets, isotonic energy drink, chewing gum.
I keep getting advised to pack lots of sugary treats in my hospital bag and any excuse to pack some goodies sounds good to me!
Medication -
My Pregnacare Vitamins which can bought online at Pharmacy At Hand.
I also received a Laboraide in a Project B box and although I do feel a bit sceptical about using it I have packed it anyway to try out.
Miscellaneous -
Iphone and charger.
Hair brush, hair clips and bobbles.
Notepad and pen.
Again if there is anything that you think it missing then please let me know. I would rather have everything I could possibly need than miss one little thing. I probably won't use so much of what I have packed but for peace of mind I would rather have it there just in case.
Maternity Leave
The time has come and I am finally on maternity leave. This is my first day and it just feels like a day off. I don't think I have come to the terms with it yet. I do intend on taking the full year but you never know I may want to go back a little earlier. When I do go back I am only going back on a part time basis of three days. My work colleague's were kind enough to all sign a card and even had a collection for the baby on my last day. I was very overwhelmed and will miss them while I am on leave.
If you have read any of my previous posts you will know I have been pretty organised when it comes to preparing for the baby. His nursery is already decorated, his clothes already in the wardrobe, he pretty much has everything that he needs and probably all the stuff he doesn't need too. So it doesn't really leave me with much to do during the weeks up till his birth. I intend on giving the house a top to bottom clean as I want it to be spotless when he comes home. Other than that I am just going to sleep as much as I can and take it easy before he arrives and perhaps read a book or two.
I have my baby shower to look forward to in two weeks time. My mother in law to be is organising it and I am so grateful for it. I have only invited close family and friends and it's going to be brilliant to see them all come together to celebrate our little one. I am not normally one of these people who likes to be in the limelight. I never had an 18th or a 21st party or even an Engagement do but our boy needs celebrating!
Last but not least I am going to spend as much quality time as I can with my Nick. These next 6 weeks (more or less) will be the last weeks of it just being the two of us. The last few weeks of us just being a couple. After our son is here we will be a family and just typing that gives me goosebumps! We really cannot wait. Our life is about to change so much and we are ready for it! Roll on November!
My Pregnancy Essentials
Personally I think I have had a fairy easy and straight forward pregnancy so far. I haven't had any health issues or even any morning sickness. I am so thankful for that and I feel for the people who have had it harder than me. That being said I have had occasions I have found difficult, the easiest of tasks can become daunting and I am always worrying about something. There have been things which have made those times easier for me or have lifted my spirits. I decided to write a post dedicated just to them!
Orange Juice
At the start of my pregnancy I really suffered with nausea. I found that having a glass of good old OJ really helped especially when drunk in the morning. It also gave me the energy kick I needed and it felt good giving baby and I a great source of Vitamin C. At times I went through a litre of the stuff a day as it eventually developed into a major craving. As my pregnancy progressed I seemed to wean myself off the orange stuff as it began giving me terrible heartburn.
Walkers Crisp
I bet you are thinking this is some sort of mistake but believe me Walkers crisp have been invaluable to me during this pregnancy! As I stated above I really struggled with nausea at the beginning of my pregnancy and at one point all I could stomach was potatoes and Walkers crisps! A bag of Ready Salted would not only curb my hunger but seemed to magically make my nausea go away. I have always been a crispaholic and my pregnancy seemed to multiply then tenfold! (Hello cellulite!)
Sleep Mist
All of the Cussons Mum & Me products, from bubble bath to stretch mark cream are fabulous but I found that the sleep mist to be the most helpful to me. I've been through times where I have found it hard to drift off to sleep and a quick spray on my pillows and bedding really helps me feel relaxed and in no time I will be dozing off. I think I will be buying this product for years.
Baby Bump App
This is the perfect app for any expectant mothers. I downloaded a dozen apps when I first found out I was pregnant and this one is by far the best. I have used it daily. Not only is it simply the best but it has everything you need all in one place. It keeps a track of how far along you are, how long you have left. Daily tips on your pregnancy as you progresses. Weekly updates on your babies and your bodies development and much much more. Recommend this one to all pregnant mummies out there.
Fruit
Not just for helping with nausea but for also helping with feeling lethargic. Eating lots of fruit gave me energy when I needed it most and generally made me feel healthier in myself. I have always been big on eating fruit but again my pregnancy seemed to enhance that and it was one of my major cravings. When you crave healthy food you have to make the most of it cause the next week you could be craving tinned hot dogs like I was! Yuck!
Maternity Clothes
Before I was pregnant frumpy and fugly came to mind when I imagined Maternity clothes. I also worried about the price and thought that I would just give the whole thing a miss! Safe to say I am converted. I was pleasantly surprised of the ranges of maternity clothes I have found on line and in stores. Particularly Topshop, New Look and ASOS. I have found super stylish yet comfortable clothes at extremely affordable prices. Money well spent in my eyes.
Sleep
Bit of a no brainer but sleep! I napped wherever and whenever I could. Nothing helped more than a little cat nap here and there. A novelty that us parents need to make the most of before our little bundle of joys arrive!
There's plenty more I could add and I probably will update as I go but these random things have been a blessing during my pregnancy!
